It’s with great excitement that we head to the Nurburgring Nordschleife for our next Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland Race! After learning the track to pass the Superlicense test in Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation 2, I’ve been in love with the legendary track that is the Nordschleife. I have several hundred laps in Gran Turismo around the track, and my handful of laps in a real car there have proved to me that there really is nothing else like it in the world.
It’s certainly a special place, and I feel it’s important to always remember that it demands respect. I’ve never driven on a more dangerous race track in my life. That being said, there’s something pure about the experience of driving on the track that is completely unique to the Nordschleife, and I believe this is part of why I love it so much. Regardless, I’m going into the weekend with two major goals, A: Do the best job I can, and B: See the checkered flag. If the combination of those two equals a top 10 result, I’ll be even happier!
Ultimately, I’m just excited to get more laps around this track; It’s one I want to learn every inch of as it’s a dream of mine to race in the Nurburgring24 and to challenge for victory there as well. Lots to learn, looking forward to it all!
Yesterday was another tough day..
I raced my way from P18 up to P12 and near the end of the 3rd lap, a car spun right in front of me and I narrowly avoided a big incident. I took one breath and was thinking about how close the previous incident had been when I broke slightly too hard for the next corner, locked the rears, started sliding, left the track, and had a big impact with the ever present wall that is characteristic of the Nordschleife. It was a very small lapse of concentration which resulted in big consequences including lots of bruised ribs. Hurting today, but not as much as yesterday. Grateful for no broken ribs, it could've been a lot worse.
Rugged beginning to the season so far. That being said, I'm learning lots, and still loving it, just hoping future lessons don't hurt as much haha.
